The Twins were off yesterday, and so I spent my Twinkie Town space making a resolution: to be calm and enjoy the pennant race this year.

The End Of Pro Soccer In Minnesota?
The NSC Minnesota Stars announced yesterday that, without a rather well-off private partner to fund the team, they won't return in 2011. I cover some of the details at SB Nation Minnesota, but barring a real surprise, it looks like the 21-year run of pro soccer in Minnesota may be at an end.

Vikings Can Prove Uselessness Of Off-Season
Over at SB Nation Minnesota this week, my column was about all of the distractions that the Vikings faced this summer - and how, should they overcome those issues, the Purple can prove just how pointless off-season news really is.

Weekend Links [RandBall]
This week at StarTribune.com, I've got my one piece of State Fair-related advice. Head over to RandBall to see some sports links, too, including the Twins, a wonderful Gopher Football blog I've just found, a great soccer story - and a cricket link, too.

Weekend Links [RandBall]
This week, we're covering baseball, hockey, and open-wheel auto racing. As I say in this week's effort: you're just lucky I didn't cover all of the goings-on in cricket. (Maybe next week.)

Could Major League Soccer Succeed in Minnesota?
Today's SB Nation Minnesota post looks at whether Major League Soccer could be successful in Minnesota. You don't have to just listen to my word, though - I talked to the best of the best, including Brian Quarstad of Inside Minnesota Soccer, Bruce McGuire of Du Nord Futbol, and my close personal friend Michael "RandBall" Rand.
Those three made this feature, so for their sake, go read it.

Weekend Links at RandBall - plus a bonus post!
It's Saturday, and time for another edition of the weekend links. New Timberwolf Anthony Tolliver makes an appearance, along with a few exceptional Twins links, and a short essay wondering why anybody would go to a golf tournament.
Also this week, I wrote some extended remarks for David Kahn at Canis Hoopus. (Before you click, be aware that this was an attempt at humor, and most of the commenters at the site hated hated hated it. Apparently only I find David Kahn funny as a grizzled old newspaperman.)
